Campbell: Jameson Williams Will ‘Push’ to Be Full-Time Starter
Jameson Williams, a wide receiver with the Detroit Lions, shown a lot of potential in the 2023 campaign.
Despite facing a four-game ban early in the season, the second-year Alabama prospect managed to make an impression at crucial junctures during the campaign.
In the three postseason games the Lions played, he had at least two catches in every game of the regular season, finishing with 24 receptions for 395 yards and two touchdowns. Specifically, the NFC Championship game was his first multi-score game.
An incredible 42-yard run on an end-around early in the game was one of those scores.
Now that the 2024 season is approaching, the quick wide receiver may advance even farther by assuming a full-time starting role on the offensive line.

During his Tuesday media appearance at the NFL Scouting Combine, Campbell acknowledged that the wide receiver in his second year made progress after getting back from his gambling ban.
“He progressed and when he was able to come back off, when got him week four of the season after he had the suspension, all we asked of him was growth,” Campbell stated. “Just become one of the guys, someone we can count on in this offense, and just get a little bit better.” Just complete your work, and he fulfilled that specific task. As you can see, we truly believed that he was starting to come into his own by the end of the year. He will now make an effort to start every game. Additionally
Williams played in just six games during his rookie season due to recovery from a ruptured ACL he sustained in college. His availability at the beginning of the year has been hampered by that and the ban.
He did, however, manage to secure reliable representatives for the majority of the 2023 campaign. Expectations for the Alabama product in 2024 are high due to the promising improvement that has been demonstrated.
“We’ve said it before, everyone grows at a different rate and maybe it’s taken him a little bit longer,” Campbell added. “But he is improving and expanding, and he is unquestionably a member of the squad. Come on, kids. We see him growing, therefore we have great expectations for him. Provided that he returns and places the work in the way we anticipate he will since he has demonstrated that he will only become better with time.”
