Raiders Rumors: Josh Jacobs Not Expected to Get $14.1M Franchise Tag Ahead of NFL FA
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders will try to re-sign Josh Jacobs, who will become a free agency soon, but they will not apply their franchise tag on him.
According to Schefter, the Raiders would have to pay $14,149,200 for a franchise tag on Jacobs. The running back, in his sixth season, just signed a one-year contract worth $11.79 million, which expires in 2023.
Having played with the Raiders his whole career, Jacobs finished the 2017 campaign with 805 running yards and six touchdowns—the fewest yards and touchdowns of his career. He missed the last four regular season games due to a quad injury he sustained in December.
During his last 17-game season in 2022, Jacobs was one of the NFL’s best running backs. He was the league’s top player in 1,653 running yards and 12 ground touchdowns, which was tied for the fifth-most.
The former Alabama player who was selected in the first round will probably be able to stay in Las Vegas, but if he chooses to move elsewhere in free agency, he should have a choice of clubs.
With Jacobs not being claimed by Las Vegas, the roster of well-known players expected to be available as free agents grows. This summer, Saquon Barkley, Austin Ekeler, Tony Pollard, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Jacobs will all be free agents.
