Tony Mowbray resigns from his position as manager of Birmingham to receive medical attention.
For about six to eight weeks, Mowbray won’t be on the touchline; assistant manager Mark Venus will take his place.
For a maximum of two months, Tony Mowbray will abstain from managing Birmingham City while he undergoes medical attention.
Six weeks ago, Mowbray took over as Birmingham’s manager from Wayne Rooney. However, he is taking a break, and in the interim, assistant manager Mark Venus will lead the club.
Birmingham City can confirm that manager Tony Mowbray needs medical attention, thus he will be temporarily stepping away from the on-site supervision of the club for a period of around six to eight weeks, the club stated in a statement.
After undergoing a recent LMA health assessment, Mowbray said, “I have been diagnosed with a medical condition that will need treatment. Due to medical treatment, I will need to temporarily leave my position as manager ofMy assistant manager, Mark Venus, along with coaches Ashley Cole, Pete Shuttleworth, and Maik Taylor, will temporarily lead the team until I return. While receiving therapy, I will still offer guidance and recommendations.My family and I are really appreciative of the club’s tremendous assistance. I’m confident that at this point, everyone will respect our privacy.
Birmingham have won four, lost three and drawn one of their eight games in all competitions since Mowbray was appointed in January following the departure of Wayne Rooney. His last game in charge resulted in a 2-1 win over former club Sunderland, who sacked Mowbray in December.
