BREAKING NEWS! BOSTON CELTICS FORCED TO SACRIFICE SUPERSTARS! WILL JAYLEN BROWN BE THE FIRST TO GO?
After the Boston Celtics defeated the Toronto Raptors 120-118 on Friday, wing Jaylen Brown was questioned about the team’s commitment to play as a unit and make individual sacrifices this season. He replied as follows:
“It seems like a fresh start,” Brown remarked. “We have experience, I believe. An additional year of experience has a bearing. Secondly, our team structure kind of simplifies things. Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis simplify things somewhat. We also want to thank our coaching staff. This year, I believe the coaching has done a fantastic job of ensuring that we understand how the game should be played.”
The scoring averages of the Celtics’ four best players speak volumes of the team’s buy-in mentality. Jayson Tatum, Brown, Porzingis and Holiday are all averaging three-plus points per game fewer than they did a season ago. Plus, Holiday is averaging the second-fewest points per game of his pro career at 13.1.It’s likely that Jaylen Brown thought he was alone on an island. Perhaps not abandoned, but few others had the same faith in his playwriting skills as he did.
He committed a career-high eight turnovers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat to close the season for the Boston Celtics.
In the off-season, however, the two-time All-Star said he worked harder than ever before, including developing into a facilitator for his teammates, after he also inked the richest deal in NBA history.
His efforts are beginning to bear fruit. After 29 games this season, the 27-year-old has dished out a career-high 3.7 assists per game.
But even when the seven-foot-three center isn’t on the floor with him, Brown is often making the correct reads. He’s seeing the floor better than ever before, and he is setting up his teammates to score more effectively than at any juncture in his career.
