Wolves boss Gary O’Neil proud of players’ commitment and hard work

Wolverhampton Wanderers currently sit 11th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 25 matches, the same tally as 10-place Chelsea, and manager Gary O’Neil is very pleased about the effort his players are putting in.

Although he is glad to downplay such discussion, Gary O’Neil encourages Wolves supporters who have dreams of playing in Europe.

With a 2-1 victory away from Tottenham on Saturday, Wolves accomplished a Premier League double, advancing them to 35 points overall for the year.

After winning four of their last five games, Wolves is currently just two points out of seventh place, where they have qualified for the Europa Conference League each of the previous three seasons.

“I don’t really set goals in league table positions, especially with a group that I didn’t know when I joined and most of the talk at that point was around relegation,” O’Neil remarked. “I haven’t seen the league table.”

“To change the topic of relegation to Europe is a large leap.

“If we can maintain a cup run, I’ll keep pushing them until the last siren at Anfield at the end of May, or hopefully even later.

Yes, I do enjoy seeing my fans dream. One of my favorite aspects of my work is that, although I appreciate their freedom to consider it, I am not permitted to get carried away and worry about hypothetical scenarios.

“They would be concerned about ‘how we obtain our next win and are we going to remain up?’ if we were now ahead 22 points.

“They may speak about a title charge for all I care about, given that we are already 35!

“I’m glad they’re having a good time, and we got to spend another wonderful moment with them, which was truly unique.

“The bond between the players and the fans is evident, but we must continue to strive for improvement in all areas.”

Wolves’ two-goal hero was Joao Gomes, who put up a fantastic performance in front of Brazil’s head coach Dorival Junior.

“Did Joao know the manager from Brazil was here? I’m not certain,” O’Neil said.

“I believe you already know what to expect from Joao, be it the Brazil manager or just a single man and his dog watching anybody else would be interested in seeing Joao, or the manager of Real Madrid.

I’m hoping he’s simply attempting to win my favor! For him, it was a good day.

Due to their opponents’ participation in the Carabao Cup final, Tottenham’s scheduled match against Chelsea on Friday has been postponed. As a result, the team will have to nurse their wounds for the next two weeks.
