Recent coaching news could mean the Tennessee Vols now lead for a key 4-star recruit

The Tennessee Vols may suddenly be the school to beat for an Atlanta 2025 four-star recruit as a result of recent coaching news.
Tennessee and Georgia “have probably led the pack” for 2025 four-star wide receiver Travis Smith, according to 247Sports’ Anna Adams on Monday.
However, Smith will need to establish a rapport with a new wide receivers coach for the Bulldogs in light of the recent announcement that Georgia wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon is departing Athens to take a position as wide receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“BMac, it really spoke to me. Direct to the point, as I had a wonderful relationship with BMac. Regarding McClendon’s leaving, Smith told Rivals.com, “It’s painful to see him go.
Relationships are important to me, Smith continued. “So whenever they do get that receiver coach, I will need to build my relationship a little more on him so I can actually have a great feel and comfortability with the whole program once again.”
That information seems to push Tennessee to the front of Smith’s recruiting by default, but Georgia will undoubtedly still play a significant role in this matchup.
Still, Tennessee’s pursuit of Smith is undoubtedly aided by McClendon’s departure.
Smith, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 191 pounds, is ranked as the No. 25 wide receiver in the country and the No. 27 player in Georgia according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
During the previous season, the gifted wide receiver made two trips to Tennessee (for the Vols’ games versus Texas A&M and Georgia). It is anticipated that he will return to Knoxville in the spring.
