Everyone in attendance, including Chiefs guard Trey Smith, scurried for cover as the gunshot concluded Wednesday’s Chiefs Super Bowl parade and celebration.
During this week’s Good Morning America visit, Smith recollected his experience. Smith claimed that the day had proceeded much like the procession the previous year, with security officers rushing up to him and other participants and telling them to “hurry up, hurry up, hurry up” in order to escape the area in light of the incident.
Smith claimed that he and about twenty other people joined long snapper James Winchester in a closet, and Winchester was credited with keeping everyone calm until they were allowed to board team buses. Smith recalled that other parade participants were also being transported by those busses.his effort to prevent a young admirer from being afraid of the circumstances.
This young child was with his dad. He was a bit of a crazy person. He simply went into panic mode. He felt afraid. He is unaware of what is happening. Throughout the entire procession, I was wearing the WWE belt and wondering what I could do to support him. I simply remarked, “Hey buddy, you’re the champion,” and gave him the belt. You won’t get hurt by anyone. You won’t get hurt by anyone, dude. You can trust us. We’ve only recently begun to discuss wrestling: “Who is your favorite wrestler?” What is your favorite bout in the WWE? Simple things like that helped divert his attention. He had his head turned to the window. He observed individuals responding, attempting to escape the circumstance. “Here you go, buddy, this is yours,” I say. You won’t get hurt by anyone. Here you are with us. You will be safeguarded. You’re going to do just fine. You’re going to be just fine.
Smith expressed his “pretty anger” at someone losing their life as a result of the “senseless violence,” which the police say was the outcome of a fight between multiple persons. During the incident, around twenty more people sustained injuries. While stating that the investigation is still ongoing, police have taken three persons into custody and found numerous weapons.
