Micah Parsons thinks that T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the front-runner for defensive player of the year, was correctly chosen by voters. Pittsburgh The 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Myles Garrett of the Browns, instead of superstar T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The choice infuriated supporters throughout Western Pennsylvania.
However, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who finished third in this year’s poll, told Steelers supporters to calm down. He claimed that Garrett’s case against Watt was really straightforward: Garrett faced more double teams and yet had a bigger impact on the opposing quarterback.”Horrible take!!” Parsons responded on Twitter to a Watt follower. “Myles was the superior athlete! The scenario as it really is! Compared to quarterbacks, Myles faced a lot more double teams! Fans, please look at the movie instead than the stats!”
Fans of the Steelers will find it difficult to accept this, given that in 2023 Watt topped the league in QB hits, pressures, and sacks. Compared to Parsons and Garrett, he had five more sacks and six more QB hitsWatt dismissed the slight and decided to spend the evening with his wife rather than go to the NFL Honors. Watt tried to have fun on his night despite hinting that he wouldn’t win hours before the ceremony started. The winner of the Defensive Player of the Year award this season was the focus of attention for Pittsburgh Steelers supporters.
T.J. Watt was one of the five finalists, and it appeared likely that Watt and Myles Garrett, the edge defender for the Cleveland Browns, would face off for the DPOY title when odds were taken down from betting platforms.
Steelers fans lost it just before NFL Honors kicked off. Watt vanished from sight and wrote, “Nothing I’m not used to,” on X.We knew Watt wasn’t going to take home the trophy after he abruptly left the NFL Honors ceremony. Garrett went the stage to accept the trophy when it was time to reveal the Defensive Player of the Year, but Steelers supporters would not have it. Since the award was presented, the number of incensed Steelers fans on social media has skyrocketed, and many of their Twitter replies were too offensive to use in this piece.
This would have undoubtedly been another significant event in T.J. Watt’s career. Even though it’s difficult for a player to win Defensive Player of the Year just once in their career, Watt may very well win it twice or even three times. The good news is that his Hall of Fame career won’t be derailed by his failure to win a DPOY trophy this year. These same Associated Press voters recognize that Watt will eventually get a bust in Canton even if he is still running at a legendary pace.
The fact that Myles Garrett, our adversary, took home the prize this year is the source of the greatest aggravation for supporters. Although Watt recently became the first player in NFL history to lead the league in sacks for a third time, Garrett’s raw stats didn’t appear to match his. Let’s give credit where credit is due, though. On the team that led the NFL in total defense, Garrett was the top player.
We cannot be overlyWe shouldn’t be too surprised that Garrett took home the Defensive Player of the Year trophy, particularly if you were paying attention to the betting odds. Ultimately, Garrett received 23 votes compared to Watt’s 19.
The good news is that a famous player who is headed toward the Hall of Fame should only get more motivated by not winning the DPOY award this year. Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt were selected together in the 2017 draft, so it seems like they will always be opponents.
