KIA ROOKIE LADDER
Victor Wembanyama gets picked #1 in the Rising Stars draft by Kia Rookie Ladder.
Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama are selected in this week’s Rising Stars draft’s first round.

Jalen Rose, Tamika Catchings, and Pau Gasol choose their players for the 2024 Panini Rising team.
This season, the top two Rookie of the Year candidates are throwing a block party. Wembanyama has already had 138 blocks and 51 steals. Compare that to Rudy Gobert, who earned the first of his three Kia Defensive Player of the Year accolades in 2017–18 with 129 blocks and 44 steals.
• Finally, Holmgren, who is only five swats behind his Spurs adversary and has already surpassed Kevin Garnett’s rookie total (131 in 80 games) in 51 outings, is at 133.
• Last week, Holmgren attempted 6.5 3-pointers, and George made 52.6% of his 6.3. However, Miller’s season-long 10.3 from beyond the arc would only fall short of Steph Curry’s (11.8) and Luka Doncic’s (10.4) marks.
• It appears like the Thompson twins, Ausar from Detroit and Amen from Houston, switched jerseys. Ausar was consistently posting higher results through New Year’s Eve (9.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.2 apg). However, Amen is producing more thus far in 2024 (8.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.9 apg).
Hitting the road is the Wemby tour. Wednesday marks the start of San Antonio’s season-long nine-game “rodeo” journey, seven of which will see Wembanyama play in front of an audience for the first time. Against Miami, he shot 8 of 22 for 18 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 turnovers in November. Miami is the team he will face first. He still hasn’t played in the following cities: New Orleans (April 5), Milwaukee, Charlotte, Orlando, Brooklyn, Toronto, Dallas, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City (all of which may be on this tour). See you next year!
