Soon after the 2015 college football season started, University of Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright encountered hardship. Now, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year is battling yet another ailment. Keep checking back for updates.
Wright had high expectations going into the season after leading the Wildcats in tackles and sacks with 164. According to ESPN Stats & Info:, those figures made him one of the most effective defensive players in college football in over ten years.
Unfortunately, he had a serious setback when he sustained a knee injury in Arizona’s opening game of the season. According to Bryan Fischer of Bleacher Report, it appeared to be rather significant because the Bronko Nagurski Trophy recipient was unable to even stand on his own two feet:
Nevertheless, according to Anthony Gimino of Tucson News Now, Wright’s father wasn’t very worried about the seriousness of the wound:
After all, Wright managed to get back into the starting lineup, but with him recovering for the second time this season, the Wildcats coaches and fans must be worried.
Thanks in large part to Wright and the defense as a whole, Arizona came into the season ranked in the Top 25 and with dreams of winning the Pac-12. However, the Wildcats’ defense will be far less dynamic and dependable without him on the field.
That is a bad combination in a conference like the Pac-12 where there is an abundance of offensive talent, and if Wright doesn’t return soon, the Wildcats’ season can get out of control.
Haden Gregory, Derrick Turituri, and DeAndre’ Miller, among others, will be examined.
