ANGELES — Joe Hortiz, the director of player personnel for the Baltimore Ravens, is being courted by the Chargers to become their general manager, sources informed Adam Schefter on Monday.
Jim Harbaugh, the new coach the club hired last week, will be teamed with Hortiz.
Hortiz, 48, started out as a football personnel assistant with the Ravens and has been with the team for 26 years. He has been in his present position since 2019. In his role as director of player personnel, he assists Jim’s brother, coach John Harbaugh, and general manager Eric DeCosta by supervising both collegiate and professional scouting for the Ravens.
During his final NFL season, from 2011 to 2014, Jim Harbaugh played for the San Francisco 49ers. However, his relationship with general manager Trent Baalke and the team’s leadership was strained, which caused him to leave for Michigan before his contract was up.
One of the most critical things that Harbaugh and the team’s leadership will have to address is Hortiz and Harbaugh’s relationship. Specifically, they need to decide who has the last word when it comes to personnel selections.

By using an emoji of a sad heart on his X account, Omenihu seemed to corroborate the news.
Despite missing the first six games due to an NFL suspension, Omenihu led the Chiefs in sacks this season with a career-high seven. Before departing with the injury on Sunday, he got a strip sack of Lamar Jackson, the quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens.

Missouri’s Kansas City In an obscenity-filled Instagram Live video attributed to him, wide receiver Kadarius Toney claimed that the Kansas City Chiefs had filed false injury reports on him. However, coach Andy Reid refuted this claim.
Reid stated, “That part is not made up by any means; he has been on the injury report.”
Toney said in his article that he is not suffering from the hip and ankle issues that the Chiefs have been listing on their weekly injury reports.
“I’m okay,” Toney declared. “Not a trace of that.”
After deflecting a ball to a defender for an interception in the second half of this season during a Week 15 game against the New England Patriots, Toney has not appeared in a game since. Prior to the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, the Chiefs announced that Toney will not be playing due to personal and injury-related reasons. On Saturday, Toney’s partner gave birth to their first child, a daughter.
Reid claimed to have heard about Toney’s post but not to have seen it. Reid stated on Monday that Toney was “working through some things” and that the Chiefs would have him with them when practice for Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers started on Thursday.
The NFL has the authority to punish teams and coaches for providing false or deceptive injury reports. In December, rushing back Bijan Robinson was sidelined by an illness that had prevented him from playing in a game against Tampa Bay earlier in the season. As a result, running back coach Arthur Smith of the Atlanta Falcons was fined $25,000 and the team $75,000.
Toney was supposed to bear a heavy burden for the Chiefs this season, but he has only managed 27 receptions for 169 yards and one score. EAGAN, Minnesota T.J. Hockenson, a tight end for the Minnesota Vikings, sustained a ruptured ACL in his right knee on December 24 against the Detroit Lions. The Vikings acknowledged the injury and scheduled surgery for Monday.
In the same knee, Hockenson also tore his MCL, thus he and the Vikings opted to postpone the ACL surgery until the MCL mended.
Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic carried out the treatment on Monday. A timeline for Hockenson’s return to the field has not yet been released by the Vikings, with training camp scheduled to begin in around six months.
