Ford Field is the place to be on game day, as Detroit Lions fans are well aware.
But because of the Motor City’s recent success, a lot of fresh people are learning the ropes. Tens of thousands of people watched Detroit’s decisive victory over Tampa Bay, which sent them to the NFC Championship. Among them was ESPN’s Steve Levy.
Monday at roughly 1:00 p.m., he tweeted:
My headache has only gone away now. I’ve never been to a stadium as noisy as Ford Field, which I visited yesterday. Even still, it was noteworthy how quiet the Lions were throughout their “Goffense” period. I’ve never seen so few out-of-town spectators at a major athletic event. Possibly the greatest NFL gameday experience there is. Bravo, Detroit.
He’s correct on two points: the crowd volume really hurts your brain, and I swear I saw a total of maybe four Tampa Bay fans. I never thought they would travel well, but it was almost nothing. Although I haven’t seen anything particular about the Bucs game yet, the crazy Detroit crowd set a new stadium record with 133.6 decibels during the Rams game. The previous record was still held by Dan Campbell in Week 2 of the 2022 season, when the decibel level was 126.1. Here’s more from Erik Schlitt.
According to a medical authority who talked with CBS News Detroit, noise levels above 110 dB should be taken seriously, and noise levels above 133 dB will “affected immediately” your hearing.
Xiying Guan, an assistant professor of anthropology at Wayne State, told CBS that “the motion in cochlear will be 500 times greater than what it’s built for when the sound level increases to 133 decibels.” The complete narrative is available here.
And now for the remaining notes you have.
“Everything moved in slow motion.” Derrick Barnes appeared on “Up and Adams” to discuss his thoughts leading up to his significant interception.
Dan Campbell stated a few days prior to the big game that everyone would need to step up if they were to pull off a victory.
