New mock draft: Eagles select QB successor.
According to an NFL insider, even though Philadelphia’s Lane Johnson is contracted until 2027, the Eagles will still select a player to replace him in the draft.
Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network reports that in addition to selecting Johnson’s replacement in the 2024 NFL Draft, the team will also pursue him at his alma institution. Johnson was selected by Philadelphia with the fourth overall choice in the 2013 draft out of the University of Oklahoma, and according to Jeremiah, they will choose Sooners tackle Tyler Guyton with the 22nd overall pick this year.

Guyton participated in ten games during his rookie season as a Sooner, starting five of them at offensive tackle before switching to right tackle. In 400 snaps and 191 pass-blocking plays, he gave up two sacks and no hits, according Pro Football Focus.

Although scouts are quick to highlight Guyton’s athleticism, many think he would be better served by sitting several games. Ian Cummings of The Draft Network lists Guyton as one of the possible steals of the 2024 NFL Draft, although he also believes he needs more time to grow.
Guyton has the potential to be an impact starting right tackle with a year or two more of development. He has excellent pass-blocking feel and versatility in the run game. Ideally, he doesn’t start on Day 1 while he’s still learning the finer points of tackle play, according to Cummings.
