KSNB, Kearney, Nebraska – Effective immediately, Theison Anderson has stepped down from her position as head coach of the girls’ volleyball team at Kearney High.
Since 2020, Anderson has served as a member of the Kearney High School coaching staff. Anderson will stay on as a fourth grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary, according to Ryan Hogue, the director of KPS activities and assistant principal at KHS.
Anderson stated that he intends to keep involved in the Kearney volleyball community.
“It was not an easy decision, but after giving it some thought, I have decided to devote more of my attention to growing youth volleyball in the area because this is my passion,” Anderson stated. “I cherish the experiences I have had and have valued my three years as a coach at Kearney High.”
Hogue praised Coach Anderson’s guidance.
“At the high school level, his passion and expertise for volleyball will be missed, but as Coach Anderson mentioned, he is passionate about mentoring and developing the youth in our community and club volleyball program.” Hogue stated. “I also have proactive plans for Coach Anderson because I know that his skills and enthusiasm will be put to good use in the club world that he so ardently leads for our program and, when the time is appropriate and the chance arises, in a coaching role at a lower grade level. Coach Anderson’s time as a KPS coach is most definitely not over.
According to Hogue, Kearney High School is enthusiastic about the team’s prospects for the upcoming season and will start searching for a new head coach right now.
Prior to working at Kearney High, Anderson spent 2020–2021 as Morningside University’s men’s head volleyball coach in Sioux City, Iowa. From 2018 to 2020, he worked as a graduate assistant for college volleyball at the University of Nebraska in Kearney. From 2015 to 2017, he also worked at Ravenna High School as a varsity volleyball coach and substitute teacher.
