Pass-rusher Nick Bosa, who was selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl in 2023 after winning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022, is one of the players that the Green Bay Packers must always be on the lookout for in their game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. Bosa gave a Tuesday interview to the San Francisco local media regarding the forthcoming game. During the interview, he praised Jordan Love, the Packers’ young quarterback.
Many wondered what head coach Matt LaFleur’s system would look like without the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player after Rodgers was moved to the New York Jets this summer. How much of Rodgers’s success in Green Bay was still him taking advantage of freelance opportunities as opposed to “running the system” that LaFleur put in place?
It appears like Bosa, at the very least, believes that Love is “running the system,” while Rodgers was, in some ways, violating the offense’s rules while he was playing at center.
The offensive mechanism appears to be functioning effectively if Love is simply following orders. Love has thrown 21 touchdowns to just one interception since Week 11, certainly the greatest ratio among eligible quarterbacks during this span. During this period, only one quarterback—Brock Purdy of the 49ers—has produced greater adjusted net yards per attempt (ANY/A) than Love (8.68 yards per play). However, Purdy (9.45) did it while completing 106 less throws than the quarterback for Green Bay.
