Will Arch Manning play for Texas this week? What that could mean
Murphy and Manning will practice with the first team this week following starter Quinn Ewers’ sprained right shoulder in Saturday’s 31-24 win over Houston, the coach said.
Is Arch Manning a first-year redshirt?
Manning’s status as a redshirt for the Texas football team won’t change right away if he plays on Saturday. A player’s eligibility is limited to four years over a five-year period, though there are a few exceptions that could allow them to play for longer. Furthermore, a player’s appearances in as many as four games in a single season do not count toward a full year of eligibility.
This season, Manning has not yet participated in a game. In addition to potentially playing in the Big 12 championship game and a bowl game, Texas still has five games remaining in the regular season. After defeating Houston, Texas became eligible for bowl games; however, bowl games are not included in the four-game redshirt rule.
