Following the designation of AJ Dillon as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Green Bay Packers made the unexpected decision to release the veteran running back on Friday afternoon. Prior to the Packers’ Wild Card game this weekend, Dillon is dealing with neck and thumb problems.
University of Michigan product Long Jr. (5-11, 196), a fifth-year player, is back with the Packers. After being claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers on December 5, he appeared in three games for the Panthers. The Los Angeles Rams initially picked Long in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft (with pick No. 79 overall).
Ellis Merriweather, a rookie running back, is another member of the Packers practice squad. The Packers will have Aaron Jones, Patrick Taylor, and Emanuel Wilson on the 53-man roster ready to play the Cowboys if Dillon is not available on Sunday.
