Right-handed relief pitcher Mauricio Llovera was designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday in order to make room for recent free agent acquisition Lucas Giolito on the 40-man roster. Earlier this year, the Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants traded pitching prospect Marques Johnson to the latter team in exchange for Llovera. Llovera appears to be a respectable option for another team to claim him off waivers.
