Although Zack Wheeler’s extension is the Phillies’ top priority, the team is still free to sign other players to long-term contracts.
Aaron Nola was the top contender for an extension last year. The Phillies extended José Alvarado and Seranthony Domínguez while they worked out a possible deal during spring training that was eventually completed in the offseason.
The latter was a really big step. Alvarado was not allowed to become a free agent following the 2023 season thanks to his three-year, $22 million contract with a 2026 club option. The Phillies would have needed to find a way to replace their best reliever via trade or free agency as Alvarado would have been among the top free agent relievers available this year.
When pitchers and catchers report in a few days, all eyes will be on Wheeler, but these are four other Phillies players who could be traded.
