Kyren Wilson, a previous winner, got off to a great start as well.
In his matches against previous global finalist Kyren Wilson, past Scottish Open champion Gary Wilson, and former Shoot Out winner Wakelin, he rolled in breaks of 105, 129, and 92.
Kyren Wilson ended his day with a 3-2 victory over Noppon Saengkham, but he still has a good chance of making it to the final four despite losing to Day. Earlier in the day, Wilson defeated Bingham (3-0) and Wakelin (3-0), including a spectacular 130 break.
Winner of the Welsh Open Robert Milkins must perform well on Wednesday after dropping his first three Group 1 matches to Wakelin (3-0), Gary Wilson (3-1) and Noppon Saengkham (3-0).
In the group stage, seven players compete against one another; the best four players from each group advance to the playoffs.
On March 1st and 2nd, the winners of each group advance to the winners’ group, while the worst two players from each group are eliminated. The remaining top four players move on to Group 2.
Before Group 2 ends on Friday, Mark Selby, Matthew Selt, and Ali Carter are scheduled to join on Thursday.
A berth in the Champion of Champions tournament later this year is awarded to the Championship League victor.
