When fans of the Detroit Tigers visit Comerica Park on opening day of the next season, they will notice some new improvements.
The group revealed intentions to add TVs to the concourse, improve the acoustic system in the arena, and install a new videoboard. At 15,688 square feet, the videoboard will be the second largest in Major League Baseball, after the 17,400 square foot board at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
Dec. 14 marked the start of the new videoboard’s construction, which will last the whole winter. The West Michigan Whitecaps and Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers’ minor league affiliates, will be shown on the new TVs around the concourse. They will also have better pictures.
Ilitch Sports + Entertainment EVP/COO Ryan Gustafson stated in a statement, “Investing in a world-class entertainment experience at Comerica Park for Tigers fans is a top priority for our organization and we are excited to make these enhancements heading into next season.” “With a new videoboard that is more than twice as large as the current one and significant improvements to the audio and television systems throughout the ballpark, fans will see and hear a noticeable difference on Opening Day.”
Opening Day for the Tigers in 2024 is set on April 5 vs the Oakland Athletics.
With a 78-84 record at the end of the 2023 season, the Tigers said adieu to longtime great Miguel Cabrera. Miggy said that he will play one last season with the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League in 2024–2025, even though he is currently a special advisor to Detroit’s front office.
