The San Francisco 49ers have locked up the No. 1 seed for their upcoming playoff run, but they’re now monitoring RB Christian McCaffrey’s health. The two-time Pro Bowler has had the best season of his career, but suffered a calf injury in the Niners’ 27-10 win over the Washington Commanders.
Thankfully, it doesn’t appear to be too serious. After the win, McCaffrey told reporters that he was only being cautious when he left the game in the second half.
According to Niners Nation, McCaffrey stated, “I think it was minor and just made the smart move, especially not knowing what was going to happen next week.” “My intention was not to enter and exacerbate the situation.” There are some things you just can’t be stupid about.
It was the appropriate decision to rest McCaffrey rather than risk endangering his availability to play since his health is crucial to the 49ers’ success this playoffs. McCaffrey has already had an incredible year, so there’s no need to push for any pointless benchmarks.
Nevertheless, on Sunday, the seven-year NFL veteran did surpass 2,000 yards from scrimmage. He has a league-high 21 touchdowns to go along with it, marking the first time in his career that he has done so.
