Rumors regarding the Ravens’ interest in three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz immediately gained traction after it was revealed that the Arizona Cardinals had made the decision to release the seasoned player.
Zach Ertz played with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2021, another team mentioned by pundits. Given that Ertz is rumored to desire to play for a competitive team and that injuries have sidelined both teams’ starting tight ends, it seems sense to identify him with the Ravens and Eagles.
“Ertz would be a perfect fit for a Ravens team that has been bringing in journeymen tight ends for workouts to fill Mark] Andrews’ spot,” said Tony Vozza of Heavy.com. It would provide Lamar Jackson, the quarterback, with another tool and lessen the pressure on Isaiah
Ertz may be claimed off waivers; teams claim players in descending order of winning percentage, so it’s not a given that he will be available to any club that wants him. The Eagles (No. 32) and Ravens (No. 31) are at the bottom of the waiver wire rankings.
Though Ertz would be a nice addition, the Ravens prefer Likely, who had four receptions for 40 yards against the Chargers last week and had a couple big performances last season. They have Charlie Kolar, who had a great preseason, on the practice squad in addition to Travis Vokolek and Scotty Washington.
Ertz, 33, had 27 receptions for 187 yards and a score in seven games this season before suffering a quad injury.
