Final rankings for snooker at the end of 2023
In the official two-year rolling rankings list, Ronnie O’Sullivan will be ranked #1 in the world of snooker at the end of 2023.
The Scottish Open last week was the last competition of the year that counted for the standings.
The Rocket’s decision to withdraw from the competition made headlines, but it had little effect on his position at the top despite his absence in Edinburgh.
Top 16
Prior to winning his seventh global title at the Crucible Theatre in 2022, O’Sullivan was the top-ranked player in the world.
It had seemed as though he may give up that position on a few times in the opening part of this campaign.
A few more withdrawals from ranking tournaments opened the way for his closest competitors to overtake him.
Global
But O’Sullivan’s fantastic victory at the UK Championship earlier this month—which earned him £250,000—has increased his lead.
The 48-year-old’s standing will soon be in jeopardy once more since he has a lot of ranking points to protect in the second part of this term, but he finishes 2023 at the top.
In second position, Trump is ahead of Allen and Brecel, who are in third and fourth place, respectively.
The top eight is rounded out by Mark Williams, Shaun Murphy, Mark Selby, and Neil Robertson. Kyren Wilson comes in ahead of Ali Carter in ninth place.
The other sixteen in the top 16 are Ding Junhui, John Higgins, Zhang Anda, Robert Milkins, Barry Hawkins, and Jack Lisowski.
In the meanwhile, Gary Wilson has moved back up to 17th place after winning the Scottish Open.
Noppon Saengkham, the loser in the final, has moved up four spots to position 22 in the official world snooker rankings.
Head for the World Championship
Since it was the final tournament to be considered for the World Grand Prix, the Scottish Open held great significance on the calendar.
The only players that are eligible to compete at Morningside Arena next month are the top 32 players from the one-year ranking list, which is solely based on this season’s performance.
