O’Sullivan did not receive a nomination for the award, despite winning the UK Championship and making it to the World Snooker Championship quarterfinals. Rather, the shortlist included Stuart Broad, Frankie Dettori, Mary Earps, Alfie Hewett, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and Rory McIlroy.
