Shaun Murphy, a recent addition to the WPBSA Players board, says players are prepared to speak out and be heard.
At last week’s AGM, the 2005 world champion was voted, along with Mark Davis and Matthew Selt, into the WPBSA Players board.
Future adjustments have already been discussed, but Murphy was keen to make clear the scope and bounds of his new position in the most recent edition of his podcast.
On the OneFourSeven Snooker Podcast, co-host Phil Seymour was informed by Shaun Murphy that the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association was formerly in charge of the game.
That broke apart into two halves when Barry Hearn gained control of the sport. Thus, the World Snooker Tour and the WPBSA were established.

“They oversee the game’s business aspect. Everything else is handled by the WPBSA, including player concerns, rules and regulations, and other things.
“That has now been divided into two entities: WPBSA Players, which is solely responsible for managing member and player concerns and serving as a liaison between players and WST, and World Women’s Snooker, WDBS, and WSF.
“Mark Davis, Matt Selt, Nigel Bond, and chairman Ken Doherty recently joined that board, as did I.
Even though it’s only been a week, there has already been a lot of heated discussion.
We’re excited to take player concerns and run with them to see where we go. Of course, we also have our own campaigns and personal goals we’d like to see realized in the game.
