Ronnie O’Sullivan announced his retirement following a record-extending win in the UK Championship.
Ronnie O’Sullivan confirmed his commitment to snooker after securing his eighth UK Championship victory, indicating no plans to step away soon.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, the 47-year-old snooker player, has announced his retirement from the sport after a record-extending win at the UK Championship. He became the oldest ever UK champion, beating Ding Junhui 10-7 in York, and won his eighth title, three decades after becoming the youngest player to win the championship at 17. O’Sullivan’s victory followed impressive performances against Hossein Vafaei, Zhou Yuelong, Robert Milkins, and Anthony McGill.
Snooker legend Ding Dong expressed his joy in winning and playing in tournaments, despite the age barrier. He admitted that he often feels like he needs to stop winning, but he believes he is doing well and will continue until the wheels fall off. He expressed his desire to leave a lasting impression on the table, especially in a big crowd, and his love for competing with Ding Dong.
O’Sullivan secured a win just two days before turning 48, overcoming a 4-4 match in the final session. With four half-centuries and two centuries, he surpassed Stephen Hendry in Triple Crown wins across the Masters, UK, and World Championship, bringing his total to 22, four clear of Hendry.
