Ronnie O’Sullivan won the Shanghai Masters 11-9, marking his first win since losing to Brecel at the World Snooker Championship earlier this year. O’Sullivan’s victory marks his opening appearance of the 2023-24 season, following his loss at the Crucible in the spring.
O’Sullivan took a 6-4 lead in the first session, but Brecel fought back to get back on level terms at 7-7, but O’Sullivan responded with a 143 break, moving two frames away.
Englishman O’Sullivan missed a match-winning pink in the 18th frame, allowing Brecel to score and reduce the score to 10-9. In the tense 20th frame, O’Sullivan secured the trophy for the fourth time in succession, defeating Ali Carter, John Higgins, and Mark Selby to reach the final.
