What Atletico defender Jose Gimenez did in Celtic dressing room after Tuesday’s game
There has been a lot of negativity surrounding Celtic’s result against Atletico
in the Champions League this week.
Not particularly aimed at the players or the manager, but mainly around the referee and the VAR officials. But there was at least one good news story to come out of the Estádio Cívitas Metropolitano.
After the full time whistle, Atletico Madrid’s Jose Giminez paid a visit to the Celtic dressing room to pay a vist to Luis Palma.
A report from Honduran media outlet Deportes TVC has told how Palma donated his match-worn top after a personal request by Giminez for one of his Honduran employees who is a massive fan of the Celtic winger.
The employee,DanielCerrato, then posted on Instagram a picture with her beside both players beaming at the brilliant gift from Palma with the caption, “Thank you José María Gimenez for remembering me asking Luis Palma for the shirt. He knows what those details mean to me.
“It was a unique moment I felt nervous to meet the proud catracho that represents us in football and in such an important competition as the Champions League. Up Honduras and Uruguay.”
That really was a touch of class from Palma. On the park, the Celtic winger has been receiving plaudits for his performances in the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League.
On international duty, the 23-year-old has been making waves as he continues to impress opposition managers and the national media after his latest CONCACAF Nations League performances.
For Celtic, Palma has scored four goals and created two in eleven appearances so far which is a great return on the £3.5m fee they paid to get him from Aris this summer. [Transfermarkt]
Palma is certainly turning into one of Brendan Rodgers’ most important players this season and the fans will be hoping he turns on the style against Aberdeen this Sunday.
In other news, Simon Jordan says Brendan Rodgers has done something at Celtic which he really dislikesc
