Head coach Steve Cooper is concerned about the fitness of Nottingham Forest attacker Taiwo Awoniyi, as six players have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.
Forest are still managing the striker’s position after he returned from a groin injury against Liverpool last Saturday. In their 3-0 loss, he came off the bench.
However, his fitness for Sunday’s game will be determined at the last minute. Cooper is without attacking alternatives due to the absences of Divock Origi, Chris Wood, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Cooper told our sister publication NottinghamshireLive: “Taiwo is a player we have to manage.” With his injury, he’s in a difficult predicament. It is ongoing and will remain so for some time.
“It’s frustrating for him more than anyone else because he was doing so well and this has really held him back. It’s not as simple as he’s back training and fully fit. “It’s something that is going to be a managing process for a little bit of time now. We’ll see if he’s available for the weekend. We hope he is, but it could go either way.”
