Aaron Hill’s run at the Northern Ireland Open came to an end on Thursday as he was defeated 4-1 by Jack Lisowski.
The match shifted in the third session, when Hill created a 51-point advantage but allowed his opponent back on the table after behind 2-0. Lisowski stole the frame and scored to advance to the quarters.
Ricky Walden, who defeated Xing Zihao 4-1, will be his next opponent.
Elsewhere teenager Stan Moody saw his fairytale run ended by a 4-2 defeat to China’s Yuan Sijun.
Moody only turned 17 last month but three victories had raised hopes of the Halifax prospect becoming the youngest ever ranking event semi-finalist, beating the record set by Paul Hunter at the 1996 Welsh Open.
Yuan meets Chris Wakelin – a 4-2 winner over former world champion Shaun Murphy – in the last 16, while Barry Hawkins also eased through with a victory over Robbie Williams and will face David Gilbert.
Judd Trump fought back from 3-2 down to beat Noppon Saengkham in a deciding frame and set up a quarter-final with Stephen Maguire
Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan will swap the green baize for the silver screen next month when the behind-the-scenes story of his quest to claim a record-equalling seventh World Snooker Championship is released.
‘Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everything’ has been produced by David Beckham’s Studio 99, and directed by Sam Blair, who was behind ‘Maradona 86’ and others. It will be released on Prime Video on 23 November, before opening in select cinemas the following day.
Explaining his decision to add to the canon of sporting documentaries, O’Sullivan said: “My highs and lows have been well-documented by the media but I felt like now was the right time to do something more definitive – something that I can look back and reflect on as I contemplate retirement.
“Going into my seventh World Championship I wasn’t sure I had it in me but allowing the cameras in gave me perspective and was a strange catharsis.”
O’Sullivan revealed how the filming of the documentary had helped give him a new “perspective”, shortly after he provided it with a fairytale finish in 2022 with his emotional final victory over Judd Trump.
