Scott Donaldson of Perth overcame a 3-1 deficit to defeat Ashley Hugill 4-3 and advance to the BetVictor Scottish Open semifinals.
After falling behind 3-1, world number 51 Donaldson appeared to be headed out of his home event in Edinburgh. However, the former Championship League champion overcame a 48–4 deficit to win a spirited 58–minute fifth set against the colors. That proved to be the pivotal moment, as he went on to win the sixth and the decider with a break of 65.
The last stages take place in the Scottish capital’s Meadowbank Sports Centre from December 11–17.
Ben Mertens of Belgium put in the best performance of the day at the Leicester qualifying round, defeating Ahmed Aly Elsayed. 4-0 in 50 minutes with runs of 70, 100, 72 and 139.
Zhang Anda, the runner-up in the BetVictor English Open, defeated Andy Hicks 4-2, while Ricky Walden overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to defeat Hammad Miah 4-3.
In a 4-0 victory over Andy Lee, Joe O’Connor top-scored with 82, and Tom Ford defeated Louis Heathcote 4-1 in a Leicester derby thanks to a run of 116.
