The Green Bay Packers’ 2023 NFL season is going to be difficult, but we didn’t anticipate it would be this difficult. After losing to the Minnesota Vikings 24-10 on Sunday, the team lost its fourth straight game, and they haven’t won in more than a month. They are playing uninspired football and making the same mistakes over and over again. It’s a difficult time when their defense appears to be the most capable group the Packers have; over the last three weeks, they have held teams to manageable scores, giving up an average of 20 points per game, but they don’t look good doing it. Midway through the season, the Green Bay Packers continue to make the same mistakes week after week and are uninspired.
The Packers are still using extremely lax coverage. On Sunday, the Vikings converted 11 of their third or fourth downs, with an incredible eight of those coming on third-and-eights or longer. Minnesota made it appear simple when the Packers’ defensive backs were playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and backing up from the snap. That is supposed to be a favorable down for the defense.
Since he assumed the position, Joe Barry, the defensive coordinator, has consistently addressed this issue. Although Matt LaFleur has previously voiced his frustration over this, he hasn’t been successful in persuading his defensive coordinator to play with greater aggression.
While LaFleur still needs to work out his differences with his coaches, the offense has the biggest
That’s the most frustrating aspect. We knew this season was going to be challenging, but we were at least hoping for some flashes of brilliance
They scored three points in the first half and haven’t scored a touchdown in the first half since Week 2. Additionally, since their defeat by the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, they have failed to score more than 20 points.
Errors are to be found everywhere. Too many blocks are made by the offensive line when running and passing the ball. With the football, Jordan Love isn’t always accurate. Additionally, his receivers run completely the incorrect routes or drop too many passes.
And there are the consequences. On Sunday, Green Bay received 11 flags for 99 yards. Due to their poor offense, they are the NFL team with the highest number of penalties, many of which are unavoidable.
Week after week, the same errors are made without any indication of improvement.
Love is regressing. He should total roughly 3,626 yards, 26 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 57.7%. In just four games this season, Christian Watson has only managed 11 receptions for 176 yards. Every offensive lineman has had difficulty.
The bad news is that things won’t get any easier with their schedule. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs are their opponents the following week, after they play the Los Angeles Rams. Their schedule’s first segment was meant to be the easiest. They will now enter a challenging phase.
With just over half of the season left, it is imperative that Green Bay starts stacking victories. While they don’t have to be flawless, any indication of improvement would be warmly received.
