Following a terrible collision, the ice hockey community in Yorkshire and throughout the nation has united to honor Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson and to support Steelers teammate Matt Petgrave.
Shortly before nine o’clock on Saturday, October 28, fans attending the Sheffield Steelers vs. Nottingham Panthers game were asked to leave Sheffield Arena. Johnson, a Nottingham Panthers player, had a “major medical emergency” before anything happened.
Following a collision with Steelers player Matt Petgrave on the ice, the Challenge Cup tie was called off. As soon as the player went down after the collision, medical personnel were summoned onto the ice.
The athlete passed away from his wounds today, the Nottingham Panthers have confirmed, despite their best efforts to rescue him. An “outstanding ice hockey player” and a “great teammate and incredible person with his whole life ahead of him” have received tributes.
The Steelers player Matt Petgrave has received support from the ice hockey community following the occurrence, which was referred to as “a freak accident” by the Nottingham Panthers. “The entire hockey community is with you Matt Petgrave,” tweeted @EllisHockey2003.
On Facebook, Headstrong Hockey Apparel posted: “When tragedy strikes, we get strength from standing by each other. I would want to express my sincere sympathies and support to Matt Petgrave today, as he was witness to the horrific event that resulted in ice hockey player Adam Johnson’s untimely death.
“Life may be wildly unpredictable, and we frequently find ourselves in circumstances we never would have imagined. We want you to know that you are not alone during this trying time, Matt, as we can’t begin to imagine the suffering and anguish you must be going through.

The 10 Minute Misconduct Podcast continued, saying, “During this difficult time, the whole Panthers fan base, as well as the family and friends of Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson, are in our thoughts and prayers.
“The hockey community mourns as a unit. Please keep in mind that we are only able to speculate on the feelings of Matt Petgrave, the opposing skater who was engaged in the crash.”
