Nottingham Forest and Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté has missed training ahead of his country’s World Cup last 16 clash against England on Sunday.
Kouyaté was one of three players to miss Senegal training on Thursday, with the midfielder having picked up an injury in their opening group game against the Netherlands on November 21.
He was stretchered off during the game with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury following a tackle from Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
It is something of a worry that he is still missing from training, though Nottingham Forest will be hoping it is not a long-term issue. The Reds are back in competitive action against Blackburn Rovers on December 21.
Senegal are due to face England at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday evening with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. Kouyaté looks likely to miss the game and any World Cup fixtures beyond that if Senegal were to get through.
Whatever happens at the World Cup, Forest will be hoping he is fit for their EFL Cup game against Blackburn on December 21. If not, it may be the Premier League game against Manchester United on Boxing Day that is targeted as a potential return date.
