Thierry Rohart-Brown, a teenager from Reading, has officially joined Southampton. The news was released on the team’s official website.
Over the years, Southampton’s academy has turned out some incredible talent. While some have moved on to better things away from St. Mary’s, others have continued to play first-team roles with the Saints.
Despite their relegation to the Championship, it will be hoped the academy can continue producing players with the potential to become future senior players for the club too.
Not all talents come from the youngest age groups and work their way up the ranks though, with some signed from other clubs. Now, it has been confirmed that Southampton have swooped on Reading to add a new top talent to their setup.
The Saints have officially signed 16-year-old Reading midfielder Thierry Rohart-Brown, as announced on the team’s website. Dom Ballard’s summer loan to the Royals is part of the agreement, which the clubs have been working on for a while.
Speaking on the acquisition, Andy Goldie, the manager of Southampton’s academy, said that Rohart-Brown had been a “top target” for their young team and highlighted his adaptability as a key quality.
Worth observing
Rohart-Brown, who is just 16 years old, is eager to advance in Southampton’s prestigious academy. The same age group that he had been playing for with Reading is the U18s, which he will be representing.
It’s clear how highly Goldie and company regard Rohart-Brown—they had him marked as a “top target”—so it will be hoped that under their guidance, he may flourish now that the purchase is finalized.
