Latest Nottingham Forest news as Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards talk about a Liverpool player who should be suspended for the upcoming match
Pundits Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards all believe Liverpool midfielder Ibrahima Konate should be suspended ahead of the upcoming game against Nottingham Forest.
Konate committed two fouls in the second half of the Merseyside derby over the weekend, which many judge to have been yellow card offences. But the midfielder stayed on the pitch, despite Everton’s Ashley Young being sent off for two bookings.
If Konate had been sent off, he would have missed Liverpool vs. Forest at Anfield this Sunday. That has caused controversy among supporters and pundits alike, with the trio of pundits now weighing in on the decision.
On The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: “Well, the story of the game was the tale of lots of yellow cards, the wrong player getting sent off and another not for very similar offences.”
Shearer agreed, replying: “Yeah, Konate was very, very fortunate and I think any other day another referee gives him another yellow card and he’s off. Ashley Young was correctly given two yellow cards, it was a stupid challenge when you’re on the yellow, but if the referee is doing that then he has to give Konate a second yellow card. He clearly wipes him out.
“He was under huge pressure, the referee. At Anfield, derby game, big decision, and he got it wrong for me.”
Richards agreed that “the referee got it wrong” with the cards, and went on to praise Everton for their performance, particularly in midfield
