Celebrating ten years in business, a sports bar in Great Yarmouth has seen locals take on some of the greatest snooker legends.
Spencer Jones, the owner and professional pool player, was thrilled to see his establishment, Spencer’s Sports Bar, on Regent Road, open in December 2013.
The 43-year-old Caister resident, who co-owns the bar with his fiancée Tiffany Davies and friend Joe Parker, stated that starting a place of this kind has always been his dream.
Mr. Jones claims that the bar’s pool tables are the best in Norfolk. Other features include a darts lounge, big screen sports, and gaming machines.

“I wanted to introduce pool to the town because I have played it my entire life. I was searching for the right place because I had a dream,” he remarked.
Before he took over, the space above McDonald’s on Regent Road was abandoned for ten years and was formerly a snooker hall.
Business was booming for the first seven years, with birthdays, anniversaries, and other celebrations held in the function room and pool tournaments drawing large crowds. However, Covid struck.
According to Mr. Jones, “it has been more of a struggle since then.” “Covid has eliminated the features. And it’s difficult to remain open now that energy is rising.”
The county Norfolk pool is played at the bar, and weeknight tournaments support the operation of the establishment, he said
Famous snooker players such as Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, Mark Williams, Steve Davis, and Jimmy White attend large-scale exhibition nights at the bar where they play local challengers in frames, giving onlookers a close-up look at the action.
“The best part is the people enjoying it, people enjoying the tables,” said Jones.
On November 4, there will be a ten-year anniversary party in the bar. It’s free to attend and promises to be a fun-filled evening with an 80s theme.
