According to a great exclusive article in TeamTalk today, Kalvin Phillips, a central midfielder for Manchester City, is eager to move to Newcastle in January.
Newcastle is searching for a replacement for Sandro Tonali, their central midfield player, who has already admitted to his illegal gambling and faces a year-long ban from all sports.
There was also news today that Dan Ashworth, Newcastle’s sporting director, had already met with CAA Stellar, Phillips’ representatives.
The thirty-time England international is reportedly eager to relocate to Newcastle in order to secure his spot in the team for the country’s participation in the Euro 2024 Championships in Germany the following summer.
The other piece of news is that Phillips is currently searching for a new team after receiving word from City manager Pep Guardiola that he is not part of the team’s future plans.
The speed at which Newcastle moved is encouraging.
Following their 3-1 victory over Italy at Wembley on Tuesday, England will go to Germany for the Euro 2024 finals the following summer.
Kalvin’s comments following England’s 3-1 victory were as follows:
“You want to be playing football all the time as a player,” “I’ve not played for a year and a half, but I want to be playing as much as possible.
“I always strive to be prepared for any situation that may arise. I want to go to the Euros and I want minutes. We’ll have to wait and see.
Phillips agreed to a £45 million, six-year contract with City in July 2022.
However, Phillips has not been able to establish himself as a starter, as occasionally occurs when one joins a major team like Manchester City.
It hasn’t helped that he has sustained a few injuries along the road.
His annual salary is rumored to be £150,000, but in order to join Newcastle, he might even consent to a small pay cut.
According to TeamTalk’s sources in Newcastle, Phillips is our primary goal for January.
In addition to settling on personal terms between Newcastle and Phillips, both parties are attempting to agree on a fee.
That way, a deal can be reached as quickly as possible, and definitely before January arrives.
The news is excellent for Newcastle.
