A significant new Premier League ruling is expected to have an effect on Brighton, Wolves, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa.
Changes to the Premier League’s television rights will affect Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers since starting in 2025, 270 games will air live each season. All Sunday games will be shown starting with the 2025–2026 season, which will have a significant impact on Villa’s fellow European teams, especially those that are not members of the ‘big six’.
To try to keep attendances at all levels of the football pyramid consistent, the customary Saturday 3pm blackout will continue, but in order to provide additional coverage, there will be an additional round of midweek Premier League games. It has been decided to keep airing the regular timeslots of 8 p.m. on Monday and Friday, 12.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, and 4.30 p.m. on Sunday.
As the overall number of matches on television increases from 210 to 270, at least two broadcasters will purchase the rights starting in 2025. These broadcasters are probably going to be Sky Sports and TNT Sports. Since each broadcaster has many channels, it is unlikely that this specific Premier League decision will have an effect on the amount of English Football League games that are shown.
