Taylor Harwood-Bellis, a Southampton loan player, “is out of the England U21 squad” due to a recent hamstring injury, according to talkSPORT.
During the summer transfer window, Southampton acquired Harwood-Bellis from Manchester City on a loan.
Since then, the 21-year-old has made six appearances for Russell Martin’s team in the Championship, all of which have come in the last six games that the Saints have played.
However, it has been reported by talkSPORT that Harwood-Bellis would not be playing for England U21 against Serbia and Ukraine this week due to a new hamstring injury.
No one will be called up to take Lee Carsley’s place, according to the same story.
After three games without a loss, Southampton is presently ranked 10th in the Championship table. This comes after the team suffered three straight losses.
Although he was demonstrating class and recovering from an earlier injury, this current injury might be a major setback for the Manchester City loanee.
It’s also a setback for Southampton. Fans have been critical of their current league standing, and losing important players like Harwood-Bellis will undoubtedly make Martin’s efforts to win over the supporters more difficult.
It is unclear how serious his injuries are. Expect Martin and Southampton to be wary of it, though, given that Harwood-Bellis has had a recent history of injuries.
Later in the month, the Saints return to action on the road at Hull City. The Saints will face another challenging road game, but this two-week break will have allowed Martin more crucial time to work with the players and explain his strategies.
