Todd Cantwell of Rangers claimed this week that a deal to join Leeds United was “close,” and that he might have been the perfect no. 10 acquisition for manager Daniel Farke.
Leeds required upgrades around the park as we entered the summer season. We hired Karl Darlow as a goalkeeper; Illan Meslier stayed. Luke Ayling’s replacement, Djed Spence, came on loan from Spurs.
Joe Rodon, another center back on loan from Tottenham, is a center back. While Jamie Shackleton has skillfully made a comeback, Sam Byram is dazzling on the left side of the defense. Major surgery was required for the midfield.
Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Adam Forshaw, and Marc Roca have been replaced by Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev, and Archie Gray, a breakthrough talent. Some would contend that our midfield is superior.
a forward named Joel Piroe. Willy Gnonto and Cree Summerville, who were the wingers, remained, with Jaidon Anthony replacing Luis Sinisterra. However, the no. 10 position during the window was the one area in which Leeds did not progress.
Cantwell almost joined Leeds; Might have been ideal for Farke
We made an effort. In addition to Nadiem Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen, Matt O’Riley from Celtic and Kenny McLean from Norwich also made an appearance. Piroe and Georginio Rutter will work together to fill the playmaker position.
Cantwell, however, might have been ideal. He admitted to The Beautiful Game Podcast that he came “close” to joining Leeds after being released by Norwich in 2021, just after Farke was fired at Carrow Road.
A player with tremendous talent who has thrived in the Premier League under Farke and has even been linked to high-profile moves to some of England’s top clubs. He currently plays for Rangers in the Europa League.
He was at his best under Farke. The Leeds manager made an effort to get Byram and McLean back together as well as Max Aarons. The paucity of choices for position 10 might have been resolved if he had access.
