Russell Martin will be determined to continue Southampton’s difficult Championship season after the break. Southampton has had a difficult Championship season thus far.
Following a much-needed recovery to form before the break, Southampton is currently ranked 10th in the Championship. They had started a four-game losing streak before scoring seven of a possible nine points.
However, Martin’s team has been predicted to compete for promotion, thus the Saints will be driven to advance in the league over the next several weeks and months.
Fresh hires were made throughout the summer, but once the team was demoted, most of the rumors focused on departures. However, since deadline day, not much has been spoken about Southampton players who might leave in the offseason.
However, there have been rumors that offensive midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Argentina is still attracting attention. Benfica, Newcastle United, and AC Milan were reportedly interested in him during the summer, and Brentford is still keeping an eye on him in preparation for a potential January transfer.
Many of the specific rumors from other places have been about upcoming arrivals. Adeteye Gbadehan, a midfielder for Southampton, caught their attention in September after he decided against enrolling in an MLS academy, but little has been heard about his situation since.
Patrick Roberts, a summer target, is another person who may be worth keeping an eye on. Prior to January, Southampton is reportedly one of the Championship teams still keeping an eye on the Sunderland winger.
Given that his contract expires in 2024, it’s possible that he signs with a different team before the season is through.
Last but not least, Peterborough United CEO Darragh MacAnthony shared information on Southampton manager Martin’s admiration for Ronnie Edwards, a center defender. He claimed that although Martin had expressed his admiration for the 20-year-old center back to Posh director Barry Fry, he was unable to influence the player’s transfers, therefore nothing of his personal interest materialized.
