The Athletic recently reported that Everton had interest in Southampton midfielder Shea Charles in the previous summer. Before the Manchester-born star chose to sign with the Saints, it is thought that the Toffees were considering a move to get him.
Charles’s Outstanding Form Charles is having a strong season at St. Mary’s Stadium in the EFL Championship after a string of standout outings in the middle of Southampton’s midfield. This season, the 19-year-old has played in ten games for the Saints across several tournaments.
With an impressive 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 1.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the English Championship, the talented adolescent has effectively anchored the midfield. After successfully completing 88% of his attempted passes in the second division of English football, he has even distributed the ball reasonably well (statistics from whoscored).
The summer of 2027 will see the expiration of his current Southampton contract. Therefore, if Everton decides to rekindle their interest in the gifted kid next summer, they will need to make a compelling offer.

Should Sean Dyche, the manager of Everton, go back for Charles?
Charles is a skilled ball defender who can effectively identify danger to win the ball back for his team inside his half. When the opposition is in an offensive position, he doesn’t mind clearing his lines.
Charles is primarily a defensive midfielder, although if instructed to do so by his manager, he can also play as a central defender or as a right-back. The Northern Irish prodigy is a good passer of the ball as well, but moving forward, he needs to find a way to be more effective.
Charles is currently content with his life in Southampton. It will therefore be difficult for Everton’s head coach Sean Dyche to persuade him to leave the St. Mary’s Stadium at the conclusion of current season.
Charles has the makings of a top player, therefore there is no disputing his potential. In the long run, Dyche would bet on his ability to bring out the best in the youngster at Goodison Park. Overall, the Merseyside club ought to think about pursuing Charles again the following summer, particularly if he continues to shine in the 2023–24 EFL Championship.
