According to Sky Sports journalistwe Zinny Bosll, West Ham player James Ward-Prowse would have been called up for England if he was playing for a top-six Premier League team.
Gareth Southgate has not selected the midfielder for the Three Lions’ upcoming matches against Australia and Italy.
Instead, Southgate has gone with Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Conor Gallagher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Kalvin Phillips.
“James Ward-Prowse is an obvious candidate to replace Phillips,” Sky Sports’ Boswell wrote. “Despite his six assists for new club West Ham this season, he was overlooked for England once again.” Ward-Prowse’s fate might have been different had he transferred to a top-six team.”
Unwise decision
Even if the Hammers midfielder does not start, which is likely given the presence of star midfielders Rice and Bellingham, he might make an impact from the bench.
Furthermore, no one in the squad equals Ward-Prowse’s set-piece talent, with international matches being won in this area. The player will undoubtedly be disappointed by Southgate’s decision, but it is a win for West Ham and manager David Moyes, who would not have wanted Ward-Prowse to sustain an injury if he had been selected, as is often the case when players leave for international duty.
The former Southampton captain will be ready to go in claret and blue when they face Arsenal.
