Tottenham Hotspur have recently been connected with a promising midfielder.
Spurs have made contact with Royal Antwerp teenager Arthur Vermeeren, according to 90Min.
The outlet claims Tottenham are in the race for the 18-year-old alongside many of Europe’s big boys.
Vermeeren is reportedly being pursued by Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus.
Even better, Antwerp’s player is only worth £15 million, according to TEAMtalk.
Tottenham could conceivably sign a player regarded as the next Andres Iniesta or Xavi for a low fee.
There is a chance that a bidding battle may break out, but £15 million is a wonderful starting point.
Vermeeren is a high performer who has been groomed for stardom.
He has already appeared in 49 games for Antwerp and has been called up to the Belgium senior squad.
Football.london has compared Vermeeren to Declan Rice in terms of player comparisons.
They describe Vermeeren as a “cross between a traditional holding midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder.”
‘A little similar to Arsenal club-record signing Declan Rice in that respect.’
Marc Overmars even likened Vermeeren to Barcelona legends Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
“I have no doubt that he has a fantastic level,” he said to Cadena Ser, according to The Express.
“The first time I saw him he reminded me of Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta, a footballer of the same profile.”
Tottenham are undoubtedly on the right road, and bringing in such a great player – maybe for less than £20 million – would be another step in the right way.
