Tahith Chong was stretchered off in Birmingham City’s defeat to Coventry and was sent to hospital for an X-ray.
Blues were soundly defeated at the CBS Arena, where goals from Josh Eccles and Viktor Gyokeres in the first half left the Sky Blues on track to finish inside the Championship play-offs. However, the game was overshadowed by Chong’s horrific injury midway through the second half.
The former Manchester United midfielder was left in a heap and required extensive care before being dragged off the field. Chong walked out of the stadium on crutches and will undergo an X-ray this evening to see whether there is any bone damage.
“He’s obviously taken a really bad kick to the back of his calf,” Blues manager John Eustace said. “He’s going to the hospital for an X-ray, so fingers crossed it’s not too bad.” We’ll have to see what happens. He’s been left on crutches and is in horrible shape.”
