Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, might be quite busy in the January transfer window.
Eduard Spertsyan, a Newcastle transfer target, has stated that he can be acquired for just £13 million in January, ahead of a winter bidding war between at least two Premier League clubs. Spertsyan, an attacking midfielder, has been connected with a number of high-profile European clubs.
In the Russian Premier League, the 23-year-old has starred for Krasnodar. A prohibition on Russian clubs competing in Europe, however, has led the brilliant playmaker to seek a new challenge.
Spertsyan has five goals and three assists in the Russian Premier League this season. Last season, he had 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.
The Armenia international has subsequently stated that he could leave in January, with Newcastle reportedly interested. According to the footballer, a bargain £13 million cost would be sufficient to get him away from Russia.
Yes, I’d like to play in Europe shortly. I’ll have to struggle and work for it. “I don’t want to leave here by running or by helicopter!” the star was quoted as saying while on international duty by Tuttomercatoweb.
“I enjoy being here. But I want to go to Europe while I still have the possibility because I don’t know what will happen there. I’m confident, and I believe I can attain even higher ambitions.”
When asked how much it would cost him to leave Krasnodar, he replied, “About 15 million euros (£13 million).” At least, that’s what [the club president] believes.”
Former Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko believes Spertsyan would be a good fit in Newcastle. The former Premier League player feels he will get the most game time on Tyneside.
“He had a good season last year, but we (Russian clubs) don’t compete in European competition.” And who follows our league? If there is genuine interest, such offers cannot be turned down,” Pavlyuchenko told MetaRatings, which first reported Newcastle’s interest in Spertsyan.
“I would recommend Eduard travel to Newcastle.” He appears to be playing at Newcastle. That is something I would do.”
Newcastle spent £130 million on new arrivals during the summer transfer window, but the Saudi-backed Premier League club could spend much more in January. Eddie Howe’s team sits ninth in the Premier League and hammered Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The possibility of going far in Europe may drive Howe to bolster his team in order to cope with a heavy schedule
