Leeds want £100m from Premier League club if they’re found guilty of breaching spending rules
It wasn’t all that shocking when Leeds was dropped from the Premier League at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season.
Before the club, in its wisdom, decided to bring in ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce in a desperate last-ditch effort, the all-whites had long been front-runners to be dropped.
That was also obviously doomed to fail, as Jesse Marsch’s replacement with Javi Gracia was possibly the largest blunder made by the previous administration and the point at which the rot had truly begun to spread.
In any case, the all-whites continue to feel extremely wronged, especially considering that Everton was the team that was promoted at their expense.
If the Merseyside team is found guilty of breaking spending regulations, Leeds, Leicester City, and Burnley all aim to sue the Toffees for £100 million each, according to the Daily Mail.
According to reports, the three have contacted 777Partners, who plan to acquire the club, a combined letter.
That may be in peril if Everton is found to have violated any rules by the independent Premier League panel when the issue is heard by them at the end of the month.
The three teams contend that any penalties—which would have included penalized points—should have been applied last season, when, for instance, Leeds would have continued to play in the English top division and reaped the benefits of all it entails.
The decision of the case is expected to be a watershed moment for the team and its supporters as they are set to move into a new stadium too.
