Watford summer signing in action for U21s as he regains match fitness
Rhys Healey was one of the six new players whom Watford added during the summer transfer period.
Healy and Mileta Rajovic were the two new strikers Watford added to their roster this summer. While Rajovic has adapted right away, Healey joined the Hornets early but has yet to play in the Championship.
Healey, 28, formerly played for MK Dons, but he established himself in France with Toulouse, where he netted 39 goals in 77 appearances.
His previous season was cut short by a devastating injury, which eventually led to his release and summer move to Vicarage Road where he signed a two-year contract.
The striker, who is from Manchester, made his first-team debut against Stevenage in a Carabao Cup encounter earlier in the season. He then sat on the bench for Championship games against Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City, but he hasn’t been included in a matchday squad since.
Healey, along with defender Mattie Pollock, will play for 45 minutes in the U21s’ game against Colchester United this afternoon, according to Watford manager Valerien Ismael.
The 2023–24 season has gotten off to a rocky start for Ismael’s Watford. The Hornets have nine points from their first eight games and are now in position 16 in the Championship table. Their most recent game ended in a 3-0 loss to Leeds United.
Watford’s Healey on the mend
With an incredible number of goals scored while playing for Toulouse in France, Healey shown his talent, leading Watford to sign him for nothing.
And it appears to be a promising signing for Ismael, who is patiently attempting to get the striker up to match speed. A run out against the U21s is undoubtedly going to be helpful.
Next month is the international break, so Healey might use that time to catch up thoroughly.
When he eventually makes the team, it will be a significant boost for Watford, who have had a mixed start to the new season.
